This is the title of a film I watched at Locarno Film Festival just some weeks before departure. It showed the stories of some people living/working around the central market, captured by the lens of a young film director. It was shot in 2005, and life conditions have changed since then.
However, Tbilisi is still a city full of contrasts, with poor people begging for money on the side of pretty new international brand shops..
But the nice people, the gardens with figs and grape, the wind and the river make its atmosphere magic and very interesting. I liked it very much!
Its symbol is the KARTLIS DEDA, “Mother of Georgia”, which embodies these contrasts: in one hand a cup of grape for friends, in the other hand the sword for enemies!
